SoLA DesignJam

High School Students!

Be a part of the change! Are you interested in art and design? Are you competitive? Are you a high school student?

In conjunction with the TEDx Crenshaw youth event, the DesignJam Club and Designmatters at ArtCenter College of Design are organizing a creative event, SoLA DesignJam, for ArtCenter students to partner with the youth of South Los Angeles (SoLa). ArtCenter students will have the opportunity to mentor teens as they work together to come up with innovative solutions for local non-profits.

Homeboy Industries and The Ezrach Braintrust have created design briefs that cover a diverse range of projects from environmental design, interaction design, product design, and more! Over the course of the week from 9/26/2020 - 10/02/2020, high school students along with ArtCenter students will develop projects to meet the design brief. The projects will be judged by the non-profit organization, industry professionals, and leaders throughout the South Los Angeles community.

The winning group will win an ArtCenter ACX Scholarship and a virtual tour of the ArtCenter campus and swag! The deadline to apply is Friday, 9/25 by 5pm PDT. Contact designmatters@artcenter.edu with any questions.

Homeboy Industries and The Ezrach Braintrust have created design briefs that cover a diverse range of projects from environmental design, interaction design, product design, and more! We are still looking for local non-profits to partner with and these are unconfirmed. Over the course of the week from 9/26/2020 - 10/02/2020, South Los Angeles High School students and ArtCenter students will develop projects to meet the design brief. The local non-profits will be judging the projects through a 5-7 minute video of student projects submitted the night before the TedX event, and judged by the non-profit organization, industry professionals, and leaders throughout the South Los Angeles community. All disciplines welcome to register!

ArtCenter participants will be eligible for the Denhart Family Sustainability Scholarship and the winning team will receive a mentorship opportunity with Unity. The placing high school students will receive an ACX Scholarship and a virtual tour of the ArtCenter campus and swag! The deadline to apply is Friday, 9/25 by 5pm PDT.
